Donald Macgregor: Starry Nights, Country Roads

Fin de saison

It's dark by four. The lime and chestnut stand
With seasonal starlight sparkling through their hair
While in the living room, propped up in river sand,
The Christmas tree has coloured lights to wear.

Even at sixty-two life's puzzle in the box
Remains unsorted, in weird pieces lying,
Waiting for me to pull up my old socks
And solve it before curling up and dying.
